1989

They are the power trio to end all power trios. Next to the invention of the rear-window defogger, KINGS X - "Gretchen Goes to Nebraska" is quite possibly mankind's greatest achievement. Prior to it's release, much of the late 80s metal scene was ruled by those tinny, whiny Jackson guitar tones. Ty Tabor's Herculean subsonic crunch made most other heavy albums of the late 80s sound pale and thin. On top of the heaviness and startling originality, the album showcased gorgeous three-part harmonies, recalling the glory days of the 60s (BEATLES) and 70s (QUEEN) when bands would require vocal talents from each member. The album is so full of depth, liquid grooves, and spectacular musicianship (check out the bass/guitar solo interplay in "Mission"), it will continue to surprise your ears for years! An absolute must for fans of stuff like early HENDRIX or CREAM.
