Filth Ear Distribution: Based in Belgium, Filth Ear is a haven for grindcore, hardcore, and all other assorted noise. As one would expect for such DIY music, the company website reflects the bands it carries, with bare minimum graphics and red-and-white lettering over a black screen - with no unnecessary bells and whistles, this is a website that's as punk rock as the internet gets.
Navigating the site is relatively easy, although the lack of a "home" button and the recurring "Yahoo! Geocites" sidebar do prove to be a bit annoying. Also, it would be nice to be able to browse through the CDs and be able to click and buy the ones you want (not to mention that, of the five pages of Filth Ear releases posted, practically all the albums on the first three pages are out of print). Still, even though buying isn't done automatically, it's refreshing to know that all ordering and figuring of costs is taken care of directly by the webmaster himself, and quantities of available copies are updated regularly.
Be forewarned, though - both site and label are NOT meant for the inexperienced. Band descriptions consist of four or five words at absolute most (using terminology that could possibly have been made up by the webmaster), so don't expect lengthy PR promotion or reviews. Fortunately, there are mp3s available. Here are just a few of the noisemakers featured:
At any rate, if the ol' collection is lacking some raw crust, odds are Filth Ear Distribution can fix that. Check 'em out via the link below.
