Readers seeking retro-rock can find it all on Primitive Art Records, including this 7" from Sweden's WITCHCRAFT -- killer 70's influenced hard rock with a twist: it's new! It's not the product of someone's "lost" master tapes, recorded in a basement in '72 and recently unearthed by Geraldo Rivera. WITCHCRAFT proves that like fashion, music can come full-circle and back into popularity again. The band consists of Magnus Pelander on guitar and vox, John Hoyles on guitar, Jens Henriksson on the skins, and Ola Henriksson on bass (I don't know if the two Henriksson's are related or not).
Fans of early PENTAGRAM, NECROMANDUS, or even SIR LORD BALTIMORE can expect big things from this newcomer. Check out the band and the label, which claims "Obscurity since 1993". Well maybe not after my millions of fans read this review! By the way, on the back of their packaging for this 7", there are the words "stoner rock" with a circle and a line through them. Sorry, I just don't get that one. Now, where are my bellbottoms and love beads?
