  • Okay, I am not the world's biggest TOURNIQUET fan. In fact, I can barely spell it without looking. Their early stuff tends to lose me with multiple vocalists, strange arrangements, and numerous odd styles - always giving me the feeling that something important just happened--and I missed it. Frankly, I thought of enlisting the help of Stephen Hawking to decipher that stuff. Therefore, I was very skeptical when "Where Moth and Rust Destroy" arrived. But as I have said to my wife many times in the past, "Honey, I was wrong!"

Frankly, these songs are incredible and all in the six to nine minute range. They feature a helping of...well, that's just it, you can't pigeonhole TOURNIQUET into any category; they kind of touch them all here. Ted Kirkpatrick has taken their songwriting to a new level of excellence, using all kinds of influences to make something very different. Vocalist Luke Easter and new bass player Steve Andino are joined by none other than Marty Friedman (CACOPHONY, MEGADETH), and Bruce Franklin (TROUBLE) for spicy lead work. Wow! What a power shake!

Songs like "Drawn and Quartered" and "Healing Waters of the Tigris", as well as the title track cycle through more mood swings than your girlfriend on prom night. Since 1990 TOURNIQUET has been preaching the metal message (yes, I had to bring up that they are a Christian band) and this one is their best to date. This is one rocking helping of progressive metal. Fans of MEGADETH, TROUBLE, RUSH, and anything produced by Bill Metoyer (cause he did this one) and real metal - complete with guitar solos - pick this one up and you will not be sorry.
