  • (The End Records)
  • High quality Euro-style math grind.

  • I’d describe this EP as frantic Euro-grind/moshcore that combines death and technical black metal into a weird stew of sounds. They produce a kind of odd combinationAlternating between the sounds of SAPROGENIC, TERRORIZER, ASSÜCK, and perhaps something like WALLS OF JERICHO. On one hand you have SAPROGENIC styled goregrind with deep, guttural vocals, then two seconds later it's SLAYERized hardcore with alternating vocals of the cookie monster and a kind of shrieky scream. Then there are TERRORIZER styled DISCHARGE-on-crack moments melded with mechanical grind a la ASSÜCK, and so on.

These guys had something about them that reminded me of CARCASS as well, and not just the song titles. I just can't recall what because it's just one of those smidgen moments where a stray riff or a slight melody hits you. I can appreciate this band to the fullest with their heavy blasting power, but I can't say it'll get a ton of plays here due to the overtly intricate and quirky changes. That sort of thing makes multiple listens hard for me. What can I say? I like simplicity.

Regardless, it reminded me of that time period just after that golden age of grind, about 1989 or so, when bands like NAPALM DEATH and CARCASS began adding levels of complexity to their sound with varying degrees of success. I suppose fans of "Mentally Murdered"-era NAPALM DEATH and so on will love this. Me, I always liked bands like S.O.B. more than this. It's an excellent release across the board, but not one that will see much play around the Two Tub manor.
