  • AMPLIFIED HEAT– “In for Sin”, 2004
  • (Arclight Records)
  • Damn right they got the blues!

  • On their Arclight Records debut, Texas rockers AMPLIFIED HEAT deliver a fierce set of rock'n roll tunes with more than a hit of heavy blues. The album proceeds with an intense barrage of rockin' tunes made with tight, pounding rhythms. "Just a Junkie", clocks in six and a half minutes of rock ‘n blues that allows the listener to get some breath back after the first few hard- charging numbers. The band then cranks up the fuzz as they rip into "Fever". I can imagine this song would be an absolute killer live, as it goes through several phases and finally builds up to a great climax that would make a crowd of blues or psych rockers go crazy.

The final half of the CD includes the twangy, county-influenced "Drivin" to contrast the final cuts of CACTUS-style hard blues. These guys (who incidentally are brothers) have been jamming for as long as they can remember and it's obvious from the tightness of this debut. Their sound is dynamic, colorful and familiar, yet distinctive. Fans of heavy MOTÖRHEAD-inspired rock will love “In For Sin”. The added bonus of the bluesy/country moments make this one of the year's better pickups.
