  • Have you guys heard of a group of young Virginia gentlemen known as BEATEN BACK TO PURE? No? Well, let me spin you a yarn. One lonely winter night, some bands got together to have a party. Unfortunately, someone forgot to pay the heating bill, and soon they were huddling together for warmth. Well, sometimes down in those dark and rural areas, when men get that close you can hear the pig squealing, can't you? Which bands, you ask? Well, how about LYNYRD SKYNYRD, EYEHATEGOD, DOWN, and ENTOMBED to name a few? The bastard son of this sick rendezvous became BEATEN BACK TO PURE. As southern as grits, as lethal as a rattlesnake, and as groovy as I-95 into Georgia, they come to conquer all.

This is BBTP's third release and the tunes keep flowin'. Front man Ben Hogg, (really, I'm not making this shit up!) soars from a Petrov-esque vocal barrage to a lullaby, to everything in-between. The music, decidedly dixie-tinged, is at times so heavy, you can't even lift your eyelids! Here's the catch: these guys can really play! It's not just one kick-ass riff after another, they get you on the edge of absolute heaviness, and then throw something acoustic at ya! If you like heavy sludge with southern rawk / doom overtones, sweat to this. By the way, if you can sit thru this without playing air-guitar to it, there is something wrong with you. Heritage not hatred.
