  • On the A-side to this first 7" by DARK FOG, a short vocal/guitar intro called "Till The End of Time" is followed by "And I (Don't Know What To Do)". Under a thick murk (or dark fog) of psychedelic cacophony is something that's close to a very catchy piece of indie-noise pop, musically somewhere between MY BLOODY VALENTINE, early MERCURY REV (before they became roots-rockers) and HAWKWIND. It doesn't really go anywhere in the end but is still interesting enough for a few repeat listens.

"Dirigible", the song on the B-side turned me off on the first listen. The uneasy rhythm and apparent lack of song structure reminded me a bit too much of early psychedelic hobbyists like BOB DOWNES or HAPSHASH & THE COLOURED COAT. Granted, these artists are considered geniuses in some circles but their doodling-for-doodling's sake never appealed to me. Or maybe I just don't get it. After some repeated listens it's not as terrible as the first time but personally I still don't really see the point. There's nothing wrong with droning or weirdness (hey, I'm a big HAWKWIND fan) but I need at least something of a hook, dammit!

Anyway, that doesn't matter. I'm gonna put on the A-side again. It really is an intriguing little ditty. Don't bother if you want to rock out and throw the horns and stuff. This is definitely one more suited for indie-rockers and the incense-burning crowd.
