  • JAPANISCHE KAMPFHÖRSPIELE - "Hardcore Aus Der Ersten Welt", 2004
  • (Bastardized)
  • Glory days for your grindcore delight!

  • This album should do nicely for all your death/grind/hardcore needs. The band has taken the best elements from those three genres and created a sound that blows away most other things in their path. JAPANISCHE KAMPFHÖRSPIELE (or more simply JaKa) hail from Germany and sing in their native tongue. Thus I can’t understand a thing they are singing about. However, If I had to guess, I'd say their lyrics deal with issues relating to how fucked up society is, etc.

JaKa's sound consists of two distinct vocal styles; a typical deep, growling death metal vocal and a raspy, manic, higher-pitched screaming wail from vocalist Markus Hoff. The two styles work well together, creating quite a treat for a grindcore fan. The music itself is ultra-tight with many start/stop riffs. Now, the abruptness of the stopping and starting did catch me off guard a few times, as the band seems to like to stop mid-riff, but it sure keeps things interesting. The speed is it at times quite intense, but the band does take the time to slow down their furious pace for the purpose of playing songs with more depth and substance. JaKa's full-steam-ahead speed does not detract from the quality of the guitars or drums either, as all sections of the band seem to play with a high level of technical prowess.

In the opinion of this reviewer, “Hardcore Aus Der Ersten Welt” should translate into “Glory days for your grindcore delight", because this album is simply a great one.
