  • Reach for your ear protection - BAD BRAINS is back. One can only imagine what it must have been like to have seen them live, supporting legendary albums like "Rock for Light" and "I Against I". Four black guys playing hardcore punk wasn't exactly business as usual in those days, and many BAD BRAINS concerts ended in complete riots. Their influence can not be understated, as they paved the way for the whole crossover scene which flourished in the 90's with bands like LIVING COLOUR, FISHBONE and 24-7 SPYZ. They're still name-checked by Neil Fallon from CLUTCH on occasion.

It's been on and off for BB since their last official release, 1995's "God of Love", with some re-releases and a new name; SOUL BRAINS. Way back in 2005, bass player Darryl Jennifer announced that the band was in the studio working on their reunion album with the original line-up. BEASTIE BOY Adam Yauch was on board as producer and now here it is.

"Build a Nation" does really sound like it was recorded back in the day, and HR's vocals seem to float along in the mix. Whether that's a good or a bad thing is up to you, listeners. The album contains furious punk anthems like "Give thanks and Praises" and "Jah People make the World Go Round", while other tracks are pure reggae/dub tunes like "Peace be unto Thee" and " Natty Dreadlocks 'pon the Mountain Top". All songs are delivered in the name of Rasta Fari of course. If you like it old school, go on out and grab this one. And while you're at it, also look for their dvd "Live at CBGB'S", which features their legendary gig in the New York club CBGB's in 1982. Welcome back guys!
