Aah, the BLOODFARMERS. In 1990 they cut this, about 100 were released. Then later they cut something new for a new label and *poof* gone. What the band leaves behind via Leaf Hound Records of Japan is this disc and whatever remains of their "real" album, which is somewhat engaging when taken at arm's length. This isn't music you listen to while, say, having a party. More like on your 4th or 5th bong hit while watching "I Spit On Your Grave" with a bag of Doritos and a bottle of Mountain Dew nearby. Will it change your life? Probably not. But it is worth a listen. The press sheet mentions the usual suspects for this sort of thing. The only one I found confusing was HAWKWIND (this is nothing like that). But it does fit with VITUS, SABBATH, BLUE CHEER, and the unlisted-but-similar MONSTER MAGNET and some grunge stuff. By the way, I hate press releases! I can see typing something short out but don't send shit that looks like a goddamn review! You're asking us to review it so it's redundant! Anyway, band history is irrelevant if the music sucks. I don't care if you sat down with the devil himself and he gave you the riffs like that old SNL skit.
Anyways, this is a good album. It's well within line with the rest of the label's output. I'll say that it is one of the better documents for the style. Then again, a lot of that has to do with the fact that it was originally released before the big "sludge boom", which gives it a level of purity and clarity that many of the modern bands lack (because they obviously weren't influenced by other bands playing the same thing). I kind of imagine these guys like a sludge REPULSION, underappreciated and obscure until now, isolated from similar minds, frustrated and just creating an approximation of the songs they wanted to hear, then self-destructing back into the void. If that sounds like your cup o' gunk and slurry then go right ahead brother. I won't stop ya.
