This is death metal the way it’s meant to be experienced in this day and age. Evenly recorded vocals, guitar, bass and drums. VILE is tight, progressive and most of all brutal. Although most of this is pretty friggin’ fast the band’s sound always leaves itself room for expansion and innovation. “Devour” starts off with minor keyed chaos. “Deafening Silence” pummels the listener with diminished dissonance on the guitar front (Colin Davis) and some of the best bass tones in the genre (Jack Gibson). The vocals are similar to Dave Vincent’s in spots. Vocalist Juan Urteaga actually uses dynamics that are equal of the power of the band itself. This power is propelled by drummer Tyson Jupin who meshes the double bass with the pacing of the group rather than just merely showing off his chops. Somehow he manages to stick post-punk dance beats into “Sentenced to Live” without sounding contrived or dorky. Especially impressive is the disc closer “Worldhunt”. Now there is a composition that raises the bar for the band and the death metal genre itself. Crazy pacing, berserk riffage, and a killer mid-song bridge put this track on top. This all done in under 4 minutes. Very nice. “The New Age of Chaos” is a very satisfying listen and I can’t say that I am too offended by their lyrics either. They make no bones about their distaste for radical Islam. It’s hard for me to disagree with most of what’s printed here and if that makes me politically incorrect…tough titty!!
