  • TORTURE KILLER - "Swarm!" , 2006 (Metal Blade)
  • Really cool artwork!

  • Take a look at this. With a name like TORTURE KILLER, you know it's either going to rock your world old-school style or bite the big one. And with Metal Blade cranking out so much Grade A death metal, it makes the question even more tantalizing. Well, enough suspense. This is crap.

It's remarkable how Chris Barnes left CANNIBAL CORPSE in the mid-nineties and began a quest to to associate his name only with the most mediocre, yawn-inducing death metal bands on the planet. SIX FEET UNDER, PATHS OF POSSESSION, and now these guys. Weirdly, many of the tracks on this disc start out with a halfway decent riff (for example "Obsessed with Homocide" and "Sadistic") before flatlining into one-dimensional blandness. Don't put it on in the car or you'll be drifting into the rumble strips every five minutes like I was. It makes me think back to the early Earache days when Dig and crew rejected so many bands so that they could focus on titans like MORBID ANGEL and ENTOMBED. Can you imagine how much crap like this they had to wade through? And that was over fifteen years ago!

At any rate, unless you're just a gore-obsessed collector of cool artwork (it is kinda cool, perhaps the only thing earning this disc a one rating), you'd better skip TORTURE KILLER. Metal Blade's got a lot of cool newer stuff like ANIMOSITY that is worth checking out, however, so get on that.
