  • THE INTELLECTUALS - "Invisible is the Best", 2006 (Dead Beat)
  • Loud, messy garage from pasta-land.
  • What is there to say about the INTELLECTUALS? They're a three piece consisting of one guy ("Guitar Boy") and two girls ("Drum Girl" and "Key Tee"), they're friends with the MUMMIES, the press info compares them to the OBLIVIANS, the GORIES and THEE HEADCOATS (among others), they cover THE VELVET UNDERGROUND, X-RAY SPEX and THE JESUS & MARY CHAIN....yep, you guessed it. These gals and one guy play garage rock of the deliberately messy kind and they actually do a pretty good job at it. Pounding drums, screeching keys, blaring guitars, no bass and lots of screaming. This is one-take recording and it sounds like they had a lot of fun in the studio. The only difference being that these cats don't hail from Detroit or any of those other 'hip' places but rather from Italy. There is really nothing else to say. Get it now if you like any of the bands mentioned above.
