I am not sure if I love or hate this. That's usually a good sign. I felt the same thing when I first heard SWANS early material, "No New York", AMON DUUL II, Albert Ayler, C.R.A.S.S., the first movement of "Black Saint And The Sinner Lady", etc. What we have here is a clusterfuck for the ages - and I mean that nicely of course. It sounds like I feel right now. I've been up and down for days, vacillating between the feeling that I am moments from getting very sick and that weird high that precedes a nice bout with illness. At the same time, it's like I swallowed a lit match from screaming myself hoarse for several hours in the studio. Additionally, I keep waking up queasy; very lucid, almost high in a tussionex sort of way, floating on that peaceful, sleepy relaxation that comes from a nice amount of heavy narcotics. Following that pleasant sensation, I am ravaged by the urge to vomit but it just doesn't happen.
These weird feelings sum up this KK RAMPAGE disc nicely. The music is completely overbearing and ignores things like melody and structure in a way not heard since all the above-listed items. I have been told before that listing lots of stuff that people may not know is bad ju ju in the reviewing racket but that's alrighty with me. See, if you have avoided all the above listed things you're missing out on a whole world of horrible racket that will ruin your ability to listen to ever "normal music" again - and that is good. After all, what the fuck right? I mean, who really cares about that sort of nonsense anyways when you can have this?
And what is this? It is a mechanized dirty bomb of scronk designed to level the senses from what I can gather. It is rabid lab animals feasting on the corpse of Ornette Coleman. It is AMON DUUL II's "Phallus Dei" backwards, sideways, and sped up. It's what the kids (or at least Termibore readers) are calling "weird punk" which is the stupidist catch phrase since "shitgaze". Which is also a stupid catch phrase despite being kinda funny. It is far stranger than a hundred Tyvek records. It even outweirds most of the SWELL MAPS material. It is not what I would have expected from Big Neck. Ever. Ever. Ever. It's the beginning section to "How Does It Feel?" by C.R.A.S.S. as ass raped by THE SWANS. It is a turd in the punchbowl of music and I think I dig it. Yes, after listening to it again three times thru, I think we have a winner for the Intercontinental Free Jazz As Interpreted By Drug Addled Freaks belt.
