"Inquisantism," a concept record originally self-produced in 2002 by unpronounceable metal titans TRINAKRIUS, has now been reissued to find a new audience. The band has included two versions of their epic vision on this release, one in their native Italian, and one desperately seeking approval from English-speaking metal fans.
The album opens in predictably dramatic fashion, with a heavily accented Darth Vader-style narration giving way to operatic choral passages, and a string section. The Phantom of the Opera's organ also appears, setting you up for what promises to be an over-the-top production, and TRINAKRIUS certainly delivers in that regard. If you ever wondered what GAMMA RAY would sound like if they recorded an album right after their puppy died, then "Inquisantism" is your record!
Singer Michele Vitrano has a hell of a voice, but the last time a vocalist was this gratuitous in falsetto scream usage, Beavis and Butthead urged the jackass to "shut up, for the love of all things that do not suck…. SHUT UP!!" It is worth noting that Vitrano does seem to ham it up more in the English version, possibly due to his unease with the language. The aforementioned narration also comes off as far less goofy in the Italian version, which makes you wonder if including an English version was all that wise a move.
As a bonus, the band has also included a JUDAS PRIEST cover! Cool, right? Bet you're looking forward to hearing that. Well, think again. Out of all the kick ass JUDAS PRIEST songs to which the band could have done justice, why TRINAKRIUS chose "Love Bites" will forever be a mystery. Was "Turbo Lover" or "Parental Guidance" somehow taken?
For the classic metal fan, there is a lot about TRINAKRIUS' music to appreciate. The musicianship is very skilled, and the parts to the various songs are well put together. It's the cheese factor you must watch out for. These guys make SPINAL TAP look/sound like Dylan.
