  • Standouts in a crowded genre.

  • Boston's interestingly-named WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE pack a powerful punch on this, their third release for Underdogma. "Kiss the Ground, Curse the Sky" finds this trio in all-out hard, stoner- rock mode, not unlike CORROSION OF CONFORMITY but with a slightly more conventional approach. It is that mainstream element of the band’s sound that may indeed take them places. After a mere couple of plays, I found most of this album immediately recognizable. Unlike many of the band’s peers, a sense of melody lies beyond the massive power chords.

Of course WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE are not about power chords exclusively. The band also includes an assorted ballad or three exhibiting the trio’s range nicely. These include the album closer "On the Sea" and the standout "Dusk and Done," which adds admirable female background vocals to the mix. If your all about the heavier material then check out "Shank" and "Bled Out."

However, despite the band's knack for catchy tunes and melody, this style of music is far from unique, and WAGD does sound like many of the other outfits active in this vein. That small criticism aside and with ten solidly written and performed songs on this release, it is difficult to dispute the album’s overall quality. WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE is a standout in the genre and, if your into modern hard rock with a strong classic feel, “Kiss the Ground, Curse the Sky” is worth your time and money.
