  • Hey everybody! I got sumpin' to say! If there is one thing you need to do before you die, you need to leave instructions to play this new KREATOR disc at your wake, on 10, so they will all know what metal is all about! We have been very lucky this past year to see the reunion (or reinvention) of quite a few metal bands, all reaching the 20-year mark. Did I just date you? 20 fucking years--holy shit! Bands like DEATH ANGEL, EXODUS, MEGADETH, and INFERNAL MAJESTY have blessed us recently with some killer records, ones that made us proud to be loud (not to mention that it allowed me to explain that 'Bonded by Blood' tattoo on my chest to my kids.) Get ready for the cream of the crop folks: "Enemy of God" could possibly be the best KREATOR record in history. Many of the loyalists gave up on the band after "Endorama", then with 2001's "Violent Revolution", some were reluctant to come back to the fold, wanting the real KREATOR to stand up. This is it folks, thrash metal at it's pinnacle. We are very early into '05, and we have a candidate for the top 10 already.

Here it is in a nutshell: song after song on this disc punishes you with a sonic assault that will actually rupture spinal disks in your neck, leaving you with one pupil bigger than the other. The pace here from beginning to end is thrash and thrash again. The guitar work of Mille Petrozza and Sami Yli-Sirniö go together like 'lemon' and 'ade'. The rhythms pulse and the leadwork climbs like Jack on the beanstalk. Couple this with the insane drumming of founding drummer Ventor, the bass of veteran Christian Giesler, and this thing is more solid than Fort Knox during the Kentucky kleptomaniac's convention. The production of Andy Sneap is balls-out terrific, Mille's voice is never buried by any of the music, and you can understand the most guttural growl. Check out the sick guitar work that launches "Suicide Terrorist", not to mention the political relevance of the lyrics: "Eradication, cleansing of the west". "Murder Fantasies" sports guest guitar work by ARCH ENEMY's Michael Amott, and solo after solo compliments the building rhythms of this fantasy track. The last song on the disc, "The Ancient Plague", is an epic (almost 7 minutes long), and is the only song that gives you the illusion that things may slow down a bit....but NO WAY! After the acoustic intro, it blasts into hyperdrive, and takes no prisoners. Marchman and I were talking the other day about the voices of metal.Who has kept it up through the years? Although he is not a 'crooner', I'd say Mille's growls have been a cornerstone to the KREATOR sound for 20 years now, and shows no signs of letting up. So, what do we have here? We have got a thrash metal icon that keeps on delivering the goods, song by song, no compromises, no crap. Raise the flag of hate!
