  • Some new bands are just better off waiting to seek out reviews until they hone their craft a little more. Albany's NUCLEAR FAMILY definitely falls into this category. To their credit, they play a style that's not too common these days-a sort of 80s style female fronted pop rock similar to early BLONDIE or maybe ROMEOVOID minus the saxophone. Unfortunately, the five songs on this demo only average about 2 minutes apiece and are over before they really even start. Also, while vocalist Jen may have a powerful instrument, she doesn't seem to have any control over it (hint: LESS is MORE). To make matters worse, the lyrics, which are political rants from an angst-stricken teenage perspective, are impossible to believe coming out of that voice. It would be interesting to see what they can come up with after working on their songs and delivery. Next time, though, they should send a CD.
