The opening track “This Legend Forever” shows some promise but is kind of ruined by the emo chorus. “Abandon Your Hope” ups the ante but still has the same problem. The cheesy chorus just kind of destroys the song again. Killer riffs and some rather interesting keyboard flourishes are compromised by the extremely cheesy “unraunchy” overdone melodies. It’s like the band is blatantly begging for radio airplay. A band like the GALACTIC COWBOYS (going back a little, I know) were able to make the wall-of-pop vocal thing work in a metal context partially because they sang melodically over the heavy riffs. The rough vocals could weave in and out when they felt like it. Even some of their more melodic choruses came more naturally. God, I miss those guys. Unlike RAUNCHY, they also consecrated amazing compositions. Every time these guys start the pretty singing the music gets all gooey and well..pretty. Pretty lame. Like all these annoying screamo acts, the dynamics are exaggerated and trite. Come to think of it, even the tough-guy vocals suck indefinite amounts of horsecock.
This disc gets progressively worse each track that goes by. These goatee sportin’/black shirt wearin’ Danish doofuses would fit in rather well with a lot of the poser crap outfits down here in South Floriduhh. Unlike Norway’s INSENSE, about the only tolerable thing about this act is that aforementioned FEAR FACTORY influence. RAUNCHY in a bad way. When someone describes a band as sounding “raunchy” the immediate knee-jerk rawk vision that comes to my mind is THE STOOGES “Funhouse”. This is anything but that. Lame. Very lame. You would have to set your clock very early in the morning to compete with these turd burglars if you wish to go for the gold in the world of lameness. They blow monkey balls. Confute my statements herein and consider yourself my mortal enemy forever. Death to RAUNCHY.
