Just how long can this band remain Britain's best kept melodic rock secret. Releasing albums since 1978 they initially peaked with a trio of well received melodic rock LPs in the late 80s before calling it a day after '94s "Rock Art". Regrouping in 2002 this is their third release since the comeback and like fellow Brits IRON MAIDEN with their third album since reforming its a piece that demands comparison with their very best.
The enigmatically titled album features eleven well crafted tracks with thought provoking lyrics supported by almost orchestral hard rock feel to the playing. "You'll Never Sleep" is an song to match anything from their distinguished past, whilst the opener When We Were Younger builds from gentle beginnings into a rousing anthem. Lennon-esq "Inside Your Head" and "Thank You For The Day" offer quieter, more reflective moments whilst "Out Of The Shadows" and the razor sharp guitar of the modern sounding "Your Lies" reiterate their ability to play harder, driving rock music.
The return of fantasy artist Rodney Matthews in providing the artwork is the final link in the chain for the band who have evolved from prog-rock also rans into the UK's finest perveyors of high quality melodic rock. This albums not going to appeal to the heavy metal loving, doom worshipping headbanger, but if you like a bit of keyboards, a lot of atmosphere and fine musicianship then this is the best release of its kind since last years WETTON/DOWNES Icon II project.
On a UK tour from May, the album is released on March 26th.
