“Get in the pit and form a circle. Get in the pit. In the pit. Do your shit. In the pit”. “Drunk With Power” opens up with this profound sentiment, transferring me back to 1987. The hardcore moving into the metal “crossover” mode is pretty much what we get here. There is nothing here musically or lyrically that stands out at all. The guitarist’s skills are the main saving grace. The vocals do nothing for me one way or the other. “Out On Bail”, “Fight For The Right (To Be A Dick)”, “I’m Dirt” and others all start to sound like one long blur of bruises. “Catch the Bus” has a killer guitar solo. “I’m Dirt” has a nifty intro but once the vocals come in the impact is not what it was. The guitar carries it only so far. If only the rest of instruments sounded as good. For starters, the drums sound computerized. The snare, hi-hat and ride cymbal sound ok when the drums are going through straight beats. However, the tom fills sound like they came from a drum machine or that a live drummer was using some really shitty triggers. The snare rolls have this problem as well.
Near the end of the disc the band steps up a bit with the grindcore of “Keeps Going Wrong”. The only problem is that this song and the last ones that follow it have that thin pasty guitar tone that too many metal players embrace. The first three fourths of this disc have that thick SLAYER type tone and then the guitar meat drops out. By the time the title track wraps things up I’m just glad I got through this.
