  • THE CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT - "The Chuck Norris Experiment", 2004 (Scarey Records)
  • Stupid is as stupid does.

  • With only the band name, which sounds like it was concocted by some ironic hipsters in an attempt to seem clever, and a disc jacket seemingly designed by someone from Cartoon Network in five drunken minutes, I didn’t have high expectations for THE CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT. “Great, another bunch of kids with a deluded sense of their own intelligence,” I thought. Boy, was I wrong. These guys aren’t some pretentious, post-modern outfit. These guys are stupid!

Stupid in all the proper, glorious ways that rock ‘n’ roll should be. Like old school AC/DC, mixed with a hearty dose of 80’s cock rock attitude, with a guitar and bass tone current day darlings like FU MANCHU and NASHVILLE PUSSY would be envious of, these guys present a total rock experience. Performances and production are tight all around. Vocalist Chuck Ransom’s performance, (did I mention that all the band members are named Chuck? Don’t hold that against them...) is strained at all the right moments, giving their music an air of rock ‘n’ roll authenticity that is difficult to fake. I don’t know how old these cats are, but they certainly sound like they have paid their dues gigging at all the local pubs for years.

Clocking in at about a half hour, we aren’t given a chance to be bored by this disc. You won’t find anything particularly innovative or earth-shatteringly original on here, but you will find ten tracks of solidly enjoyable rock music, which is getting ever increasingly difficult to find in this day and age. I will never look at Walker, Texas Ranger in the same way again.
