"Electric Satisfaction" contains hit after hit. It’s kind of strange that this is not on a major label, but hardly surprising none-the-less given the current musical climate. It’s fits in well the Liquor and Poker roster even though it slightly more pop than say BACKYARD BABIES or NEBULA. Being that this was produced by Gilby Clark, CRASH KELLY may end up on a major for the follow up. Clark has played in later incarnations of GUNS AND ROSES and HEART. He’s also in that really gross TV reality abomination called ROCKSTAR: SUPERNOVA (and yes the original SUPERNOVA, probably the best punk group of 90’s/00’s, finally won the rights to their name a week ago, so fuck you ABC and Mark Burnett). The music here is a mixture of ‘70’s power pop (CHEAP TRICK, RASBERRIES, BIG STAR, etc.), modern metal and cock rock (STARZ and a little ‘70’s KISS maybe). On the surface this album could have been the soundtrack to “DAZED and CONFUSED”.
Every 3 to 4 minute song here tells a story of some kind. More mature stories some of us slightly older dudes and dudettes can relate to. “Hang Out Where You Matter” and “She Put the Shock (In My Rock and Roll)” sounds like they could have been lifted from THIN LIZZY’s “Chinatown”. The former is about realizing who your real friends are. “Turn it Around” is an intelligently written song about broken relationships that yours truly can take advice from. Other tracks such as “33 on the Charts”, “Rock and Roll Disasters (On the Radio)”, and “You’re a Drag When You’re High” tell compelling stories even if their titles pull no punches and leave little to the imagination. This is fine because “Electric Satisfaction” stays grounded in reality even though it could very well be the feel good album of this rather bleak year.
