According to some reviewers Norwegian rock band AUDREY HORNE (named after the character from Twin Peaks) are supposed to be some kind of 'gothic' pop/rock band. Somewhat understandable due to the pompousness of the music, but don't expect anything like HIM or THE RASMUS. Even though the music is sometimes shamelessly poppy, keyboard-orientated and it's all slickly produced this is an amazingly solid hard rock album. Musically falling somewhere between a heavier FAITH NO MORE, early QUEENSRŸCHE and ALICE IN CHAINS. I just can't believe how much I enjoy this record, and how it improves with every listen. And even more amazing there's not a weak track to be found!! Listening to this record brings back fond memories of listening to the first albums by bands like KING'S X and MASTERS OF REALITY. I'm glad they still make 'em like that; adventurous hard rock albums with all songs and no filler!!
Furthermore, this is a band that proves that it's possible to play melodic yet heavy rock, without resorting to cheesy stadium rock mannerisms or retro-camp. Sure, metal purists will probably find plenty they consider 'cheesy'. Because yes, like I said the production is very slick, some of the choruses are very catchy and sing-alongish and overall this band's got 'hit potential' written all over 'em, but who cares when the music's this good? Music press, hype these bastards NOW!! This band actually deserves it!! Meanwhile I'm giving this album another spin. And believe me, so will you when you hear it!
