What can you give to your grandfather who has everything on this holiday season? Well besides porn and Jack Daniels, you could give the latest slab of punk-n-roll by your favorite geriatric band THE GRANNIES! It is always a pleasure to open the mail and get another chunk of blue-haired filth rock to warm our hearts. Funny thing was, that when the package opened, it smelled faintly of sugar cookies, doilies, and support hose.
Ah, the meat and potatoes of it all. This is some great speeding punk insanity with lots of tongue-in-cheek humor; songs like “Your Band Sucks” and “Jesus was a Homo” are just a couple of the highlights. The exciting thing is that they got Ian Anderson to play flute in a couple of the songs here—most prominently in “Viva La Electrocution”. What tremendous star power this band must possess to fly him over from merry ‘ol England to... Wait! I'm being elbowed and told that it is NOT IAN playing on this record, but who cares! Flute on a punk record? Whooda thunk it?!?
Seattle grunge architect Jack Endino sits in the producer chair for this one, and it's not difficult to feel his influence throughout the record. Also, you get more bang for your Social Security dollar here as they have included a DVD free of the GRANNIES live in the E.U. 2005. What a bargain! So if you like stuff like THE DWARVES and TURBONEGRO, be sure to snap this one up if only for the closer, “God Bless a Man in A Dress”.
