  • ZOMBI – “Surface to Air”, 2006 (Relapse)
  • Boldly going where no band has gone before?

  • Now this is what I’m talking about! Ten years or so ago I wouldn’t have dreamed that a futuristic instrumental band like ZOMBI would be signed to label like Relapse “Death is Just the Beginning” Records. Well, here they are, and I must say that if this is any indication of what the future holds, we have a lot to look forward to!

ZOMBI is a duo, consisting of Steve Moore (bass/synth) and A.E. Pattera (drums/synth). No, there ain’t a guitar or vocal track in sight, but before you click “close” on this window just hear me out a little further. There is a ton going on to keep you interested from the beginning of this album to the end. This CD is going to suck you in with all its multi-dimensional synth harmonies and keep you going with its groovin’ rhythm. It’s not unlike 80’s RUSH with a bit of the soundtrack to “Nova” mixed in. If you’re still not convinced, I urge you to listen to this while watching some sort of sci-fi show/movie on mute. I already did with “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and even though I hate the show, it was still awesome! This album can bring out the sci-fi geek in anybody.

It’s good to see a label like Relapse branch out even further, and if you want to do the same, then do yourself a favor and pick this up already. Hell, I’m “Mr. Metal” around here and I totally dig it, so that’s got to say something! So ‘till next time, live long and prosper… or if you live in a poor state such as Michigan like I do, live long.
