  • CONQUEST FOR DEATH - "Beyond the Hidden Valley", 2008 (Give and Take)
  • Death is only the beginning.

  • Musically the opening track “Still Angry, Still Smiling” does very little, yet lyrically does much more. Unfortunately the next two fail to enthuse as well. Luckily “Beyond The Hidden Valley” picks up after this mediocre start. “Victoria Terminus” not only holds up musically but lyrics like “while cleverness keeps one alive, 'truth' is the bully we pretend to like” pretty much describe the problems with I have with most “scenesters” I’ve had the misfortune to deal with over the years. “Positive Attitude, Negative World” has some call and response twists that makes it stand out. “What Joy In Gossip When You Can Say It To Their Face” packs as many tight killer riffs as it can in a minute and twenty seconds.

“Condition Critical” comes across with brute power and some really strange lyrics despite the tune’s title which would suggest otherwise. “Is This Integrity Or stupidity? Rock ‘n’ Roll’s a loser’s Game…And We’re Winning!!!” may be a long title for a song, but it’s also the longest tune here. It’s also the CFD’s shining musical moment. Think of how THE DESCENDENTS did with the 6 minute “Days Are Blood” from the “Enjoy” disc and about a third of their “All” album. Hopefully there will be more than this in the future if CFD decide to step up.
