  • Sugary, but satisfying.

  • This was a very hard review to write, cuz sometimes you get caught between a rock and a hard place. Lemme explain. I listened to this CD quite a few times, and got to like it, but it is not in my 'normal' realm of music. I have a very limited open mind. I like what I like. This CD had me singing along, cleaning the house, even smiling for Chrissake! Yeah, every song on this thing is a little (ok, a lot) mainstream. Yeah, I HATE to admit that I like mainstream stuff. Yeah, I normally don't like girl singers, but this thing is a bomb just waiting to go off. Hell, my wife even liked it.

JERRA is one of those bands that can really rock out. Jerra on vocals, and guitar; Doug Granville on guitar; Tiff Jimber on keys; Dustin Robles on bass; and Ward Robinson on the skins have taken great care in creating a poppy edge that can appeal to the masses. Jerra's voice is sort of a cross between Courtney Love and Chrissy Hynde. The tunes have a PRETENDERS, HOLE, early GO-GO's kinda thing going on that won't appeal to all (especially those of you that own a death metal record) but I felt that what they do, they do well. There are a few tunes that are a little too poppy like "Doris Day", but on the whole there is just enough edge to overlook that. Also check out a very different cover of DANZIG's "Mother", with Jerra's vocals, and keys. Not for all, but there is something here.
