  • They thank Per Koro records. Should I even continue? OK fine, if you insist! This is ACME if ACME liked MEGADETH instead of SLAYER. Still want more? Fuck it! I guess I'll do a review. Sit down kiddies and let me tell you a tale. Back about 1989 or so there was a lot of really bad mosh tough-guy stuff that came out under the aegis of In Effect/Hawker/Relativity etc. and it was bad. For everyone one band that was honest in their intentions and approach you had 10 bands of guidos from Jersey, pretending to be from NYC, in hoodies with rat tails and big white high tops ready to prove they were "harder than you".

So some smart bands came up like BORN AGAINST, RORSCHACH, CITIZENS OF ARREST, GO!, etc. And while not as technically inclined as their yo dawg counterparts, they were still a breath of fresh air. RORSCHACH started out sounding very run-of-the-mill. But by their split with NEANDERTHAL (came with a "Dear Jesus" zine put together by Sam from BORN AGAINST) you could tell they were going somewhere. Then came the monolith: "Protestant". This was the apex for them and afterwards they would be no more (except for maybe their split with 1.6 BAND. But I digress.)

Much like all American trends, Europe picked up on this new noise and quit listening to YOUTH CREW long enough to create their response. And the most mighty of them all was ACME. They took the choking-on-glass vocals, the SLAYER guitar, and the weirdness of RORSCHACH's finale and slowed it down a notch to ensure you got your full beating. This became known as "the Bremen sound" (for the town in Germany that spawned it) and members of went on to do great things. They left a wake of bands behind, and there are still ripples to this day. SINCE THE DAY does nothing new, but it's still a good listen. I think if you liked ACME, SYSTRAL, CAROL, MORSER, or LIEBENSREFORM you will be able to enjoy them. Fans of CONVERGE, COALESCE, and other US bands doing a similar thing should be able to enjoy it as well. What more is there to say?
