  • (Seasons of Mist)
  • Mind-numbing sludge never felt so good.

  • First, let's get semantics out of the way. "Outlaw" is used as a verb here, not an adjective. For all of you that failed English class, the band wants to 'Outlaw' order. Get it? Second, keep your expectations in check here: We know that the band is comprised of EYEHATEGOD members minus Jimmy Bower. WHAT you say? We thought any band in the metropolitan New Orleans area had to include Jimmy Bower, like some sort of state law or something (hence the 'outlaw' order). Seriously folks, expectations for EYEHATEGOD fans are intense and I am afraid that they weren't met, but this is still a heapin' helpin' of sludge pie.

This CD is fantastic, hands down. We're talking short, to-the-point sludge metal with Mike Williams's kerosene and heroin-inspired vocals leading the way. Great riffs, breakdowns and down-tuned madness. Face it, if your band had one member that was in 7200 other bands, sometimes you'd have to take the ball and run with it. "Mercy Shot" is an incredible tune with the mother of all breakdowns in it. Williams sounds like a mental patient long after the meds ran out. Patton and Mader six-string it to death, and the boom section of LaCaze and Grisoli finish the job while dumping the body. Lord help my poor wife if I make her listen to "Narco-Terroristos" one more time (my life insurance has never looked so good). The bending of strings almost made me sprain a wrist playing air guitar. Short fluid guitar fills dart through the speakers, and when the tempo of this song slows down, crawling is not quite slow enough. If you like your southern-fried sludge, please buy this shit so the band can spend the money on booze.
