Now this is where the term "underground music" is all about! Taste it, smell it and live it! AMPLIFIED CARCASS has a sound straight from their rehearsal room in daddy's basement. It seems like they've made a pact, swearing to take all the great riffs made in music history and put them in six songs. "Don't Care What" is filthy trash blues and "Battlehorn" thrives on purity, enthusiasm, and the same riff as LED ZEP'S "Whole Lotta Love". Then there's a short intro which sounds like it's taken from the dirtiest porn movie ever made, and "Ready For a Party/ Tiki God" kicks in with pure surf ! DICK DALE would be proud to hear this. The last song "Crimson & Clover" is a bit monotonous, vocals way back in the mix making it seem like the singer is a a bit too shy. Not much information about this band online unfortunately, but this is definitely worth checking out.
ONE TAN ARM sounds a bit more...uhmm, professional I guess. First song "Runaway" recalls the long lost SHADOWS until the raw vocals erupt. Things get filthier with the JON SPENCER-like "Heartbreaker" and the trashy instrumental "Haywire" with it's playful bassline. "Holy Breath" could have been on the last STOOGES album if they'd written better songs. "Prescription" is a moment of rest after this whirlwind with some distorted vocals in the background. This was indeed a pleasant surprise this split album coming seemingly out of nowhere! Don't always judge a cd by its cover.
