  • RWAKE - "Voices of Omens", 2007 (Relapse)
  • Hell-sludge utopia!

  • Hailing from Arkansas, RWAKE shoves their third lp down your throat and out your ass like a freight train hauling a cargo of razor blades to the gates of hell. "Voices of Omens" delivers a pummeling barrage of male/female rage-filled,dual vocal southern sludge that incorporates doom laden rhythms and progressive dual-guitar attacks. Atmospheric moments combined with brutal heaviness make this slab a listening pleasure for any fan of crusty doom. This album maintains a very dark and disturbing presence from the melodic introduction to the following eight tracks of heavy despair. Fans of BUZZOV*EN, GRIEF and EYEHATEGOD will foam at the mouth while allowing these fierce sounds to overcome their eardrums.

Relapse, who used to be more prominent in bringing us death, gore and grind has really been pushing more progressive and diverse metal over these last few years. I dare say with the rise of bands like MASTODON, it seems almost to be a trend to bring more underground heaviness to the surface.
