I’d say this is a wonderful opportunity for all Peacedoggie readers to bow down and worship a label that is hittin’ on all points at all times these days. Our friends at Estrus have sent us this exquisitely packaged spinner, crammed to the brim with goodies. We get in so many of these dang samplers from metal and punk labels, and most of them have to be endured, not enjoyed. But this CD is the top-shelf, keep-it-in-the-car-forever kind of bliss that one rarely finds with such comps.
You’ve already heard us gush over some of these bands. But now you’ve got a cheap way of taking us up on the remarkable sticky fingers-isms of THE DEXATEENS, the rocket reducing I-IV-Vs of THE MIDNIGHT EVILS, and our favorite garagey painkillers, THE KNOCKOUT PILLS. But just like those old commercials for the Norelco automatic nose-picker, there’s much more to hear before you place your order. THE DTs check in with a gritty and enjoyable rollin-on-the-river nugget, “Proud Man”. THE FALL-OUTS “One Thought Too Much” reminds me of those early THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS records. Remember the one with the phoned-in guitar solo? Dude, this thing is just stacked to the rafters with the good stuff.
So, give the Taco Bell a rest for one lousy day. Wrap some foil around some leftover pizza, and take that to work instead. Take the six bucks you saved and send it to Estrus so that you can experience all the great rock ‘n roll that these guys seem to just fall into.
