TYDYL WAVE is the band of one Dave Chenault, who previously played in an outfit called CHASER who specialized in playing covers by bands such as CREED, TONIC, THREE DOORS DOWN and NICKELBACK. Or as the press info puts it 'the great alt rockers of our day'. Well, if by 'alt' they mean an alternative for actual rock they sure got a point, because this album is filled with the same kind of generic would-be-rock we already know from the bands mentioned above. Despite the competent musicianship the only people who will seriously consider this a genuine rock album are people who don't usually listen to rock. In short, I hate this album and I don't intend to listen to it ever again.
If Mr. Chenault really wants to get into showbusiness maybe he could start writing scripts for TV shows or something. According to the press info he finds 'therapeutic emotional release in every note he sings' and 'The recurring theme in almost every song is, no matter what youre going through, you can overcome it and find a positive learning experience through it'. Not to mention the fact that 'even the negative moments in the lyrics always lead to a more positive view that through these tough times, we can become better people'. Looks to me like the guy could come up with a decent updated version of "The Little House On The Prairie". Well, anything's better than another album filled to the brim with formulaic fake-rock that sounds more like a beefed up version of AIR SUPPLY than the actual roll-up-your-sleeves hard rock it pretends to be.
Now, I know I'm supposed to be the guy who reviews the stuff that's 'weird' and 'out there' and 'different' but that doesn't mean I'm without standards. I wouldn't even use this as a beer coaster.
