VOLT are like THE MELVINS on crystal meth. They share various aesthetics as far as rhythms, riffs, and vocals. The guitar tone here is a little more rock than metal. At times it almost sounds as if a Telecaster is being used. It fills out the mids as it is supposed to. The bass guitar is very overdriven and solid. The drums are menacing and full on in the way that Mac McNeilly from THE JESUS LIZARD was when the beating commenced. The vocals are mostly screamed. Particularly impressive is “Zwiggilusion” and “Volt”. The latter has the quiet creepy parts that comprise a good chunk of “Stoner Witch”. Yeah, you could say that Volt are kind of a knockoff but they are definitely good at what they do. At this juncture, it’s not as if sounding like THE MELVINS is a reaping attempt of financial gain. It’s hardly a commercial prospect and these guys are from Germany, so it’s good to see that Buzz and his boys influence is felt worldwide.
