  • DACTYL / BACON WAGON - Split, 2006
  • (Hit Dat Records)
  • Noise rock heaven.

  • BACON WAGON starts off this cream-in-your-jeans split with a bulldozing, drag-your-ass-through-hot-tar number called "Musth" -- two minutes of squealing feedback and blood raw riffage. The other two tracks presented here are even more alluring, abrasive, and heavy. Suffice to say that BACON WAGON is perfect for that special someone that can't get enough of the dirgey BLACK FLAG stuff like "Damaged" and "Nothing Left Inside".

Baltimore's DACTYL are cut from the same mold, with a bit more Amphetamine Reptile sheen than their Swedish counterpart. Their tunes are twisted, flailing, atonal head charges that burst left and right into guitars coloring outside the lines. These riffs and changes drip with so much venom and vinegar, it's tough to tell how many guitars are playing at any given time. "The Next Wave of Who Cares" scratches, bites, and chews at a cement wall until finally capsizing over itself, ending one of the best 7" records to hit my turntable in months. Buy it.
