  • Gobs of distortion, for sure.

  • More doom sludge. Wow, I’m so thrilled I just cannot begin to tell ya. Things get off to a reasonable start with the MELVINS-style sludge of “Amuse God” and “Towards Madness” with its killer wah guitar and super-distorted Rickenbacker bass. “Infer Hate” has definitely got something going on as well. DAMNWEEVIL damn well know how to keep things interesting in the middle of this music they play.

There is almost always a nifty bridge and the occasional guitar solo to keep the plodding repetition from getting too monotonous. The problem with this is, that it is not enough to keep this whole affair afloat for too long. This is the problem I have with doom metal. There is almost always the “leave them wanting less” aspect of any one of these albums when you are done listening to them. In DAMNWEEVIL’s case, one more song may have ruined this recording completely and one less may have made it a tad better. I would not want to suggest that these guys dare abdicate their doom ideal, but a little more diversity next time around would make for a better release. Perhaps other effects besides the wah pedal and a little more vocal range? Fuck, I guess that would make them a stoner rock band, now would it not? We can’t have that. Can we? In any case, this is far better than most doom I have heard.
