  • (Relapse)
  • Herky, jerky grind from the Centennial state.

  • Colorado's CEPHALIC CARNAGE provides frentic death metal/grindcore, but with a more progressive sensibility than what is normally heard from groups of this genre. The songs "Divination & Violation" and "The Omega Point" are prime examples of this artsy bent, with their irreverent song structures and bits of odd time really coming to the fore.

The musicianship is sharp all around, as you'd imagine. The drummer freshens things up by giving us some nifty ride-cymbal bell work and the occasional jazzy flourish to occasionally break up the monotony of constant, mind-numbing double bass flurries and blast beats. Once you think you've reached the limits of your sanity, the band slows things down a bit for "G.lobal O.verhaul D.evice," but the emo-ish vocals found near the start of this passage will make you long for the spastic, A.D.H.D. nature of the other songs.
