  • To further bring home the Sam Dunn notion that heavy metal music does indeed exist in every corner of the planet, we present NIGHT WIND, a prog metal act from Uzbekistan (formerly part of the Soviet Union for those who don't own a globe). The three songs the band has available for download are ballad-y compositions with a heavily gothic inclination. It's the carefully laid layers of keyboards, not just the strong accent of the singer, that bring to mind MOONSPELL. This, along with the flashy yet snob-free guitar work, gives the band quite an impressive sound

Well… OK, that's not entirely true. These guys would have an impressive sound if it wasn't for that horrible sounding drum machine. Now, it would be one thing if this were a solo project, but no… there are four - count 'em - four members in this band! And apparently none of them know how a real drummer is supposed to sound! Don't get me wrong… I do appreciate the fact that metal musicians are probably difficult to come by in Uzbekistan. It's just that it doesn't take Mike Portnoy to realize when a drum beat sounds unnatural and/or physically impossible. Hopefully these cats study their RUSH records a little harder before the next time we hear from them.
