The first SGT. SUNSHINE album is considered something of a cult classing in stonerrock circles. Now people expecting more of the same, beware! Eduardo Fernandez is the only remaining member of the line-up that recorded that first album so basically this is a completely different band. The result is trippy, to say the least. It's also not very heavy. The new SGT. SUNSHINE play a kind of music that I would describe as 'mellow stoner'. There's still some occasional outbursts of KYUSS-like guitar but on the whole SGT. SUNSHINE has more in common with the psychedelic hippie Rock of the late 60's. Sometimes it works. The hypnotizing, almost mantra-like "Monte Azul" is perfect and "Tell Me" is another great track that even reminds me of Arthur Lee's band LOVE. But although none of the tunes here are bad they do tend to lose themselves somewhat in messy tempo changes and silly psychedelic meandering that gets dangerously close to boring. And the folky "Go Out Fishing" is painfully out of tune! Eduardo Fernandez is obviously a very talented guy and I have no doubt that he has another classic under his belt but the messy "Black Hole" is not it.
