  • Put on your thinking cap.

  • Mature metal? Intellectual thrash? Hum drum? All of the above? I hate intellectuals. Maybe because I don't trust their motives. This is concept album pap for people who like concept albums I guess. The music is ok at points, but if I want to listen to metal I'd sooner listen to something I can enjoy without thinking deeply about how the songs link together. Keep in mind I don't like most concept album bands and this is no exception. I also don't like that this is written as a farewell / obituary kind of thing. Make the title a giveaway but don't write an album about it ok?

Century Media should do something. I don't know what. But putting out "mature metal" is not it. This is like the equivalent of Michael Bolton's attempts at hard rock. Over thought, grown up, and adult. I would rather not think so much about what I'm listening to and growing up isn't even under consideration. I prefer stupidity and immortality. Call me some overgrown musical Peter Pan or whatever but maturity & music are just total turn-offs to me.

It kind of reminds me of "Tommy" in that even when the music rocks, the overbearing theme of it all gets really tedious. I guess they've been at it a long time per their bio but I have to give any future listens a pass after this. Had I heard the other stuff first maybe this wouldn't cloud my vision but well... yea. Regardless, I suppose if you like this band and the soundtracks to musicals (essentially what a concept album is) this is for you. Me, I'll be busy with things that don't require me to think as much as I do at work.
