This band was formed and masterminded by Aaron Lewis (not the fat, bald fuck who sings for STAIND, this guy filled the ever-changing "2nd guitarist" slot in CABLE for one record.) "In the Ruins, No Light Will Shine" is an uneven pastiche of an album, with song titles that would wet the knickers of high school poetry devotees everywhere. Normally, such a varied release would be preferred over something staid and boring, it's just unfortunate that the genres that WHEN THE DEADBOLT BREAKS chooses to explore aren't anything anyone wants to hear.
The band plows through material as diverse as nu-doom on "Collapsing, Color the Sun," and "Somewhere Between Murder and a Wet Dream," to death metal on "Ingrate," to a hardcore sound on "Night on Bald Mountain." They even go as far as to sound like EVANESCENCE on "Anaharta," DISTURBED on "Discord Moment," to a gheyed up TYPE O NEGATIVE on "Fist Full of Flowers and an Empty Handgun." WHEN THE DEADBOLT BREAKS has multiple singers, which really drives home the "various artists/compilation album" concept they seemed to be going for. The listener's patience is the only thing that's gonna break on this one.
