  • You know things have gotten bad when you can just name two bands to explain what another band sounds like. But then again, this is the new millennium and it's all been done. Welcome to the "death of the cool" I guess. Regardless, there are still occasional signs of life on the horizon and now and again you hear glimmers of hope that kind of make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. When I ignore the lyric sheet/cover on this GOREROTTED disc, I get that feeling. It reminds me of a couple of different things but kind of holds its own.

It's hardly a groundbreaking, mind blowing affair. But after all, you're obviously a fan of Metal Blade Records. A label that has brought you the cream of the crop for various metallic genres throughout the ages but could hardly be marked as a cutting edge (note : pun) label. But, for the ham and eggers that love this sorta jazz, GOREROTTED is probably one of the genre's apex bands in this here day and age. Once again, *if* you ignore the cover. There's a ton of heavy metahhhhhggghhhhl on here to outweigh your last girlfriend in the heavy department & the usual psychotic cookie monster backstreet brawling with big bird howling comes off a bit better here. Reminds me a lot of DISRUPT's manic vocal trade-offs crossed with VOMITUS' deep bellows from the bowels of hell.

It almost feels like the songs should be about some heavy topic based on the instrumentation and intensity. Sadly, they go the gore core route (big shock with that band name, huh?) and stick to the well treaded / sifted through blood and guts, right down to the same bloody poses ala IMPALER's first slab. Regardless, I enjoyed it when I ignored that and stuck to the music. And the music was good. Once again, no new ground broken but it still ripped better than most new stuff I've reviewed recently.
