  • THE ORPHANS are a California-based punk band with heavy 80s influences. The kicker is, they have a very capable vocalist of the female persuasion. And the songs sport a grittier edge, making them a little more memorable. Kinda like 45 GRAVE in a way, but much more straight punk, less gothy. Short, simple songs with a sound of irreverence from vocalist Miss Jenny, taking me back to those 80s movies where the girl just wanted to be one of the guys, and did a better job of it than they did.

The treble-soaked guitar bounces from the speakers to your ears in true pogo fashion. Jenny belts it, and the result is as intense as a deafening feedback blare. Track one, "Electric S", is a simple street punk anthem, hammering into the side of your head that THE ORPHANS are here to stay. The second track, "W.W.W.D." is a scorcher of guitar and drums, a catchy end-the-show-and-smash-our-gear sort of thing. In this resurgence of retro-punk, THE ORPHANS are successfully scratching their way into my ears.
