  • SLOUGH FEG - "Hardworlder", 2007
  • (Cruz Del Sur)
  • Vagabonds of the western coast.

  • Two years ago, SLOUGH FEG emerged from the bat cave with "Atavism", garnered gushing praise from metal scribes, rambled across the US in a whirlwind tour with BIBLE OF THE DEVIL, and proved once again that they're a band even a caveman could love.

"Hardworlder", the band's 6th official full-length, vivaciously continues their winning streak of epic guitar-driven metal. Some tracks hit with astounding immediacy, like the stunning "Tiger! Tiger", precisely duplicating the harmonies of MAIDEN's "Revelations". Others take several listens to fully appreciate. Mini-epics like "Karma-Kazee" and "The Spoils" weave glorious tension, progressing from midpaced battle marches to splendid ear-catching guitar duels. Like "Atavism", the songs flow into one another seamlessly, each one dropping you off at the doorstep of the next. The longest track on the disc is 5:22, providing even short attention spans with plenty of variation. The riff-tastic HORSLIPS and MANILLA ROAD covers are given full Mike Scalzi treatment, blending well with the "Hardworlder" material.

"Hardworlder" leaves the impression that SLOUGH FEG is still 'in the zone' after eleven years of releasing records. How many bands can make such a claim? Go find a fortysomething WISHBONE ASH or THIN LIZZY fan, tie them to a chair, and make them listen to SLOUGH FEG for three straight hours. He'll be so captivated, he may not even press charges.

Full stream of the album is available via the Cruz Del Sur website (link above). Enjoy!
