  • Every now and then, a heavy music fan needs to cleanse their palate with something simple and fun, yet with enough aggression and grit to keep their interest. For these folks, there's Poland's DAYMARES. Their latest offering "Can't Get Us All" is a hardcore take on the death rock of ENTOMBED and SIX FEET UNDER, with a muddy C-tuned guitar sound and indecipherable Swedish-sounding Cookie Monster growls (somewhere between Ole Lindgren of GRAVE and Christofer Johnsson of THERION). What makes them unique is that they put much more emphasis on the "rock" side of death rock than a lot of their competition. The hardcore punk leanings of "Get Us All" and "Cult Leader" match the drive of MOTORHEAD with the tone and riffs of HIGH ON FIRE. After that, the near-FU MANCHU groove of "Almost There" and "As Bad as It Gets" shows how well they can fit their many influences into one solid package. To further complement their sound, there are generous amounts of cowbell, tambourine taps and group-yelled choruses throughout the album that have been thrown in for good measure.

Perhaps the biggest selling point of "Can't Get Us All" is the fact that it's impossible to get bored with it - apart from 8 minute closer "iContact", each track only averages about 2½ minutes, with the album itself only being about 35 minutes long. That's plenty of time to satisfy the appetites of those who appreciate the catchier side of death metal. So for those who want to take a short reprieve from skull-crushing blast beats and gruesome gut-wrenching gore, DAYMARES should prove quite useful.
