Considering how much diluted, overlong, self-indulgent yawn rock is thrust upon us each day at the dog site, I figure we've earned the right to a DEAN DIRG CD every once in awhile.
In case you missed the review for 2005's "26 Kicks To Make the Whole World Pay", we'll expound a bit. DEAN DIRG is everything great about punk rock with zero body fat, zero filler, and zero preservatives. They jump in and out of songs like hovering yellowjackets, laying down super-infectious BUZZCOCKS hooks laced with singer Doph's raspy shouts and the occasional blitzkrieg solo, boiled down to single-minute tunes. "Raus!" only delivers 14 kicks, but they're all potent. "Radiation Burn" and "Can't Tell Me" are both catchier than any Pepsi jingle, but the vocal rasp makes 'em more abrasive than Dee Dee doing "Endless Vacation". The deft, near-robotic tightness is astounding, and the band manages to cram in more hooks in 30 seconds than some bands produce for full records. It's a blur of Euro-gang choruses and speeding power pop that has to be heard to be believed. Frankly, I have a few more points to make, but for some reason this album has inspired me to keep it brief. DEAN DIRG rules, so buy it, Dummkopf!
