This album is what any fan of doom would consider to be the cat’s meow: tortured vocals, slow to slower grooves and down-tuned guitar sludge. In short, it sucks the Johnny Wad! Doom is a sub-genre that is proving time and time again that songwriting is definitely a low priority and this drek shows me no different. No hooks, no melody, no creativity and no killer chops equals really nothing but a great big monochromatic zero. The only songs here that have a remote chance in hell are “Everything I See” and “Impose My Will” because the vocals are sung with a degree of passion. The music, however, is maybe a notch above mediocre. There are some OK riffs here and there (hey, I like big syrupy distorted wah-induced guitar as much as the next guy), but still very little going on upstairs.
The scratchy tortured screaming and death metal vocals do not help this music one iota. Dave Vincent sounded great in MORBID ANGEL because Azagthoth gave him incredible material to growl over. There is nothing here that comes even remotely close. About three of these tracks are kind of do-able on their own, but as an album this is a complete failure. I’m gonna have to pull out a copy of MONSTER MAGNET’s “Powertrip” or FU MANCHU's “The Action Is Go” to remind myself how heavy music should be played because this shit simply does not cut it. Since this came without any packaging into the trash it goes. It’s worthlessness is personified by the non-ability for resale because the folks at Threeman/Candlelight (who appearantly waste their resources on even worse garbage such as CROWBAR) are cheapskates. THE MIGHTY NIMBUS should consider changing their name to THE MIGHTY BOREFEST.
