  • Successors to Lizzy?

  • One of a number of worth checking Irish band's surfacing at present, GLYDER fill the gap between albums two and three by releasing this five track e.p. of songs either so far unused or in the case of the hard-hitting "Fill Your Head With Rock", has only previously appeared on a Sweden Rock Festival sampler where fifteen bands had to come up with a song of that title.

As with their other releases anyone who appreciates there rock of a "classic" vintage will find something to appreciate here and far from being seen merely as a potential stopgap, tracks like "Love Never Dies" and "Weather The Storm" justify both the release for the band and the purchase for the buyer. The former, driven by a majestic riff that recalls Ritchie Blackmore early RAINBOW outings is supremely accomplished track, whilst the title track, gradually intensifying through six and a half minutes and a couple of classy, gorgeously toned guitar solos justify why none other than Philomena Lynott describes this band as the "natural successor's to THIN LIZZY". To my mind one of the best tracks from the band yet, its quite surprising to find they've sat on this one since demoing it for a debut album where it "didn't quite fit the vibe".

Also included are a cover of fellow Irish band THE STUNNING's "Brewing Up A Storm", giving the set an opening of distinctly commercial flavoured rock, along with a final RORY GALLAGHER influenced romp entitled "Lay Down". For alleged left-overs there some impressive stuff on this short set, whetting the pallet nicely for the next full length release. It should certainly achieve it's stated intention of keeping the band's name in the spotlight until album number three arrives.
